AutoFill

AutoFill puts a username and a password into a login form. It never fills when a page loads. You always start it: a click, a key or a pick from a list. This page tells you how AutoFill works on each platform. The setup steps are on the page of each app.

All platforms share these rules:

  • Lasbolt fills only logins whose web address matches the page. It checks the address in the local agent, not in the page.
  • A secret value is not sent to the page until you pick the login.
  • An item can ask for your approval for each use. Then Lasbolt waits until you approve in the web app. See AI agents.
  • End-to-end (E2E) items fill only when the client is unlocked. On iOS, E2E items do not fill yet.

One extension code base serves Chrome and Firefox. Safari uses the same code inside the macOS app.

  • The extension talks to the local agent (lasbolt agent) through a native messaging host. You must have the lasbolt CLI installed and logged in. Run lasbolt integrate chrome --extension-id <ID> or lasbolt integrate firefox once to write the host manifest.
  • Start a fill in one of three ways: click the Lasbolt button in the toolbar and pick a login, press the shortcut (Ctrl+Shift+L, on macOS Command+Shift+L), or click the small icon in a login field.
  • The popup also searches your vault, copies a username or a password, and shows a one-time code. A copied password leaves the clipboard after 30 seconds, where the browser allows it.
  • A form in an iframe fills only if the frame has the same origin as the page.
  • The extension does not save new logins yet.
There is no extension in the Chrome Web Store or the Firefox add-ons site yet. You load a build from the source code. See Browser extensions.
